Social Action Committee Chairperson
Through May 22: we are collecting "left over", unopened, non-perishable, kosher for Passover foods to be given to Helping Hands Food Pantry in Teaneck. Please leave donations in the basket in the vestry.
June, July, August: Child-friendly food collection for the summer months when students are not in school to receive breakfasts or lunches. Please leave in the vestry room of the temple.
Last but not least! A special thank you to all who donated to our Community Purim Basket Food Drive! Over seven full bags of food were delivered from Adas Emuno to the office of the Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey as part of their Mega Food Drive. Good for us!

Blood Drive in the Social Hall from 10 AM to 2:30 PM.
Must be 16 or over to participate and accompanied by parent or guardian if under age 18. Photo ID required.
Remember to eat and drink before participating.

Another collection! Spring and summer clothing in good condition. Please leave in the back of the social hall. This drive runs through the end of May. Donations go to the Council of Jewish Women's thrift shop in Bergenfield.

Pre-Memorial Day Event
We will be going to Mount Moriah Cemetery, a Jewish cemetery in Fairview on Fairview Avenue (better known as Dan Kelly's Hill in days gone by) to place American flags on the graves of service men and women. We will not only provide the flags but will also provide a pizza lunch, in the social hall, beforehand, for anyone going. IMPORTANT: Any student attending must have parents with them at the luncheon as well as at the cemetery. The schedule is as follows:
12:00 noon: Pizza lunch in the social hall, directly following religious school dismissal
12:30-12:45: Leave for cemetery
1:00-1:15: Arrive at cemetery

We won the Souper Bowl with a score of 103 soup items collected!! This number included cans,
microwavable cups, containers and cellophane wrapped soup mixes... all in a variety of shapes,
sizes and flavors. A special thank you to everyone who "played" in our first ever Souper Bowl! A
very, very special shout out to our religious school students and madrachim who helped raise the
"score". I see a "Souper Bowl II" in our future....
Purim is coming, so in the true tradition of the holiday... let's fill a "community" Shalach Manot
basket! When you attend the Purim service and festivities, please bring a nonperishable food
item (or two or three) and place in the basket in the vestry room as you enter the sanctuary.
Food can be brought on both days of the celebration (Sunday, March 20th and Wednesday,
March 23rd). These donations as well as all food items collected through the end of March will
be delivered to the JFNNJ (Jewish Federation of Northern NJ) for their March Mega Food
Drive.
Thinking ahead... we will be collecting all leftover, unopened Passover food during the first three
weeks in May. It will be brought to the Helping Hands Food Bank in Teaneck. A special box will
be placed in the vestry for these donations.
Join Us!
Wednesday, March 9th the Social Action Committee met at 7:30 PM in the Social Hall. Our
social action projects have been successful due to the incredible responses of our congregants,
whenever called upon. In essence, you are all members of this committee! During this meeting members
brought in new ideas, discussed the old ones and welcomed those who "never knew we existed" as a
group. Couldn't attend? Just email your ideas to me. Thanks!
Thank you to all who donated to the Winter Clothing Drive. Items were brought to
the Council of Jewish Women's thrift shop in Bergenfield.
The general food, household items and toiletries collection is ongoing.

Our WINTER CLOTHING DRIVE is up and running! Please bring clothing to the
back of the social hall. We are collecting all sizes, from infant wear through adult sizes, in new or
gently used condition. Oh, please do not include hangers. The donations are being brought to
the Bergenfield Thrift Shop, which is run by the Council of Jewish Women... and they don't take
hangers... who knew? The clothing will be collected through Sunday, January 17.
Why should the NFL have all the fun? So, Adas Emuno is getting in on the
act and we're going to sponsor our very own SOUPER BOWL!! From now through Super Bowl
Sunday (Feb. 7), we will be collecting SOUP for the Center for Food Action. It's just in time for
the cold weather and it's the perfect comfort food! Please, then, pick up a can or a box of soup or
soup mix whenever you do a food shop and bring to the small room at the entrance of the
sanctuary. If each family brings two soup items, we can help to make a whole lot of people feel
mmmmmm warm, from the inside, out! (Note: please bag all items so we can transport easily.
Thank you!)
Food donations that have been left at the temple were delivered to the Center for Food Action, in
time for the holidays. The CFA director, volunteers, and workers thanked us profusely for the
bags of food, toiletries, etc. I pass their words to you, along with my own todah rabah. Our
regular food collection is ongoing.
As we begin the new year, I wholeheartedly want to thank everyone who has supported the Social
Action Committee's programs. Sometimes we ask for a lot and this congregation always comes
through. You are amazing, wonderful, generous people. Wishing you all a new year filled with

Social Action Committee Chairperson
Approximately one month has passed since we cooked for and served at the shelter in
Hackensack. We served to over 75 people (a smaller group than we had been told to prepare
for), but if more people had shown up, we would have been ready, due to this congregation's very
generous volunteers. Toda rabba to Debby and Rabbi Barry Schwartz, Cantor Sandy Horowitz,
Marilyn, Cheryl, Rich, Joan O., Kate, Sandy Z. and Michael S., Fanny, Michael F., Virginia, Elka,
Claudia, Kim M., Carol, Jerry, Lauren, Rachel, Michael R., Joan R., Norm, Doris, Jody, Vincent,
Randi, Pearl and Ronald! A special thank you to Marilyn, who communicates with "Family
Promise", sets this program up for us and remains "on call" regarding my emails. To our temple
youth: Skylar, Melissa, Ethan and Drew... you did us proud, as well as yourselves!
New project. For the month of January, we will be collecting toiletries [hotel, sample and full
sized] as well as cleaning products for Oelhaf House. This organization works with Shelter OurSisters, which deals with the housing issues of the people being helped. Please leave donations
in the back of the social hall, in the labeled box. Thank you to Cheryl Alicchio for bringing this to
our attention.
Food collection continues. About 10 bags and 2 cases of food plus a check donation were just
brought to the Center for Food Action. Nice....!!!!
Closed collections. Winter adult outerwear was brought to Council of Jewish Women Thrift Shop in
Bergenfield instead of Women’s Center in Englewood, due to unforeseen circumstances. The
shop was very grateful for the donation! Soda tabs will be sent to Ronald McDonald House.
Social Action seems to be a part of life that is always in need. You, the members of Adas Emuno,
have made this aspect of our congregation very successful during 2014. Sincerest thanks to all,
for your good hearts and willingness to go the extra mile. A happy and healthy 2015 to
everyone!
